Item Tag Question

What is the best way to handle "battle field" tags?

Example: Bob the Mighty is fighting a cadre of Assassins, one of which disarms him, picks up the weapon and runs away (what jerk!).  Bob is unable to catch the fiend, but retrieves a sword from one of the fallen Assassins in the aftermath.  May Bob use this sword as a tagged item immediately, or must he wait until he can get a tag from Staff or go to Monster Town?

I really don't want to get into a hard fast rule about this one because no matter what we say, someone is going to be unhappy.

Instead here are a few general guidelines.

If something got stolen in play, we will work to get the phys rep returned to you as quickly as possible.  Please wait until you have replaced the tag in some fashion before you start using it again.

If you pick up someone's weapon in the heat of combat, you can keep using it.  Please try to get the phys rep back to monster town as quickly as possible.  The NPC probably needs that weapon.  Tell whomever is the closest marshal that you have the weapon.  You can swap in your own phys rep if you want.  Do try and get the marshal you informed to get you a tag as quickly as possible.

If you pick up a weapon in the heat of a combat to replace something that was lost/stolen/broken, sure.  It is always a base weapon with no special qualities and is of questionable construction.  It will probably fall apart at the next combat reset.

All NPCs should have loot of some kind.  Sometimes it will be tagged weapons.  Sometimes it will be coin or resources.  Yes it is a little hand wave-y but it is the best way for us to manage NPC tags that they hand out.

If we have to revise this and do something more structured we can, but I would prefer to not.
